Hot on the heels of finally getting assurances from the Europeans of soon receiving cohorts of Leopard-2 heavy tanks, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky set a new priority: asking his allies to get long-range missiles this time and over all chase. He renewed his call this Friday in his daily address.
“I spoke today with the NATO Secretary General (Norwegian Jens Stoltenberg, editor’s note),” he introduced, before continuing:
“We need to start supplying Ukraine with long-range missiles, and it is important that we strengthen our cooperation on artillery and we need to start supplying Ukraine with aircraft.”
“It is our dream and our task,” he said.
ongoing discussions
In fact, he was just repeating, word for word or almost, his initial request on Wednesday: “We must also allow the delivery of long-range missiles to Ukraine, this is important. We must also expand our cooperation on artillery and (make possible) the sending fighter planes.
To achieve this “dream”, Ukrainian officials have already opened negotiations with their international partners, including France. But according to our information, Paris is currently not inclined to accede to Kyiv’s request. The executive doubts the advisability of dismantling the Mirage 2000 -many of which are also being renovated- and the possibility of performing sufficient maintenance on these devices on site.
