The Israeli military leadership decided to send the 101st battalion of paratroopers to the West Bank, a territory occupied by Israel, a reconnaissance corps also made up of these soldiers and even the 17th battalion of the Professional School of the Infantry Corps, reports the Europa Press agency.

In addition, the Israeli government is, according to Times of Israel sources, prepared to discuss a series of steps at a high-level security cabinet meeting tonight, including speeding up the issuance of firearms licenses to civilians and the additional financing for the purchase of firearms. weapons

On Friday night, a 21-year-old Palestinian killed seven people near a synagogue in East Jerusalem during Shabbat prayers before being shot dead by police after a chase.

This attack came a day after another carried out by the Israeli army in Jenin, in the north of the occupied West Bank, in which nine Palestinians were killed.

Already today, two people, a father and a son, were shot and wounded in East Jerusalem by a 13-year-old Palestinian boy.

Israel’s decision to send more troops to an area of ​​high tension between Israelis and Arabs in the occupied territories goes against calls made today by a large part of the international community.

Arab countries such as Egypt, Jordan, Bahrain, Oman and Saudi Arabia warned of the dangerous escalation of violence between the Palestinian and Israeli sides and called for restraint and an end to aggression and provocative measures.

UN Secretary General António Guterres “strongly” condemned the armed attack near the synagogue in East Jerusalem, calling it “particularly despicable” as it took place on International Holocaust Remembrance Day and called for dialogue.

The United States condemned “in the strongest terms” and the European Union said it was shocked by Friday’s attack and also by previous attacks, stressing that the “terrible events” show that “it is urgent to reverse this spiral of violence and launch initiatives to weight”. resume peace talks.

Russian diplomacy has expressed its “deep concern” over the escalation of tensions between Palestinians and Israelis and has called for “maximum restraint” from all parties after the attacks in East Jerusalem.
