A Palestinian died on Sunday from injuries sustained during the Israeli military raid on the occupied West Bank city of Jenin on Thursday, bringing the number of Palestinians killed in fighting that day to 11, leading to an increase in the violence in the area.
The fatal victim was identified as Omar Tareq Saadi by the Palestinian National Authority (PNA) Health Ministry, which said in a statement that he was shot in the stomach during the incidents on Thursday.
Saadi becomes the tenth person to die in the violent raid on Jenin, which sparked mass protests in the area where another Palestinian was shot dead by Israeli security forces.
The raid, the deadliest in recent years and described by the PA as a “massacre”, targeted the arrest of a Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) squad in the Jenin refugee camp, the center of the Palestinian armed struggle in the occupied West Bank and the center of violence in the area over the past year.
The Israeli incursion sparked violent armed clashes, resulting in militia and civilian casualties and the injury of 20 Palestinians.
Following these incidents, the ANP announced the suspension of security cooperation with Israel and Palestinian militias in the Gaza Strip launched rockets into Israeli territory.
These violent actions followed two days of violence in the area, marked by a major Palestinian attack on a settlement in occupied East Jerusalem on Friday, which left seven Israeli civilians dead.
More attacks and attempted attacks by Palestinians against Israelis were reported Saturday, as Jewish settlers attacked multiple Palestinian properties and vehicles in various communities in the occupied West Bank.
Recent episodes have raised the death toll to 34 Palestinians and seven Israelis by 2023.
