NATO’s Secretary General defends a world “interconnected” by security

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said on Sunday that North Korea’s support for Russia in the war in Ukraine underlines that the rest of the world must remain “connected” to ensure security.

“I believe that in a more unpredictable and uncertain world, it is even more important that countries that believe in freedom and democracy, in a rules-based international order, remain united,” Stoltenberg said during his meeting on Sunday with South Korea’s minister of Foreign Affairs, Park Jin-in, Seoul.

Stoltenberg said NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) is “concerned about North Korea’s reckless missile tests and nuclear programs” and added that Pyongyang is “providing military support to war efforts with Russian missiles and missiles”.

The NATO official’s comments come after a North Korean leader denied on Sunday that her country had supplied arms to Russia and warned the United States of an “unwanted outcome” if it continued to spread such rumors.

On Friday, Kim Yo-jong, the sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, also condemned the shipment of tanks from the United States to Ukraine, saying Washington “crossed a red line”.

“The United States, which has exposed the entire European continent to great danger of war and caused great and small concerns, is now crossing the red line,” Kim Yo-jong said in a statement from North Korea’s state administration KCNA.

Pyongyang’s comment came after the United States decided earlier this week to send 31 M1 Abrams tanks to Ukraine and gave Germany the go-ahead to send two battalions of its own Leopard 2 battle tanks and other European countries to Ukraine.

During his two-day stay in Seoul, Stoltenberg will meet with South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol and other members of the country’s government.

“Our visit is an expression of the great importance we place on the South Korea-NATO partnership and there are many areas where we truly believe that an even stronger partnership can be of mutual benefit,” Stoltenberg concluded.
