A missile would take a minute. Boris Johnson reveals the threat he received from Putin

Former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson revealed, in a documentary made by the BBC, that he received threats from Vladimir Putin, when he told him during a telephone conversation before the invasion of Ukraine that “a missile would take a minute”.

In this interview, which is part of the documentary that the BBC will broadcast this Monday, Boris Johnson describes the “long” and “extraordinary conversation” he had in February last year with the leader of the Russian regime.

Boris remembers what Putin told him: “Boris, tell me that Ukraine will not join NATO any time soon.” The British prime minister tried to understand what “so soon” meant and stressed support for Ukraine. The Russian president then threatened him.

“Boris, I don’t want to hurt you, but a missile would take a minute,” reports the former head of the British Executive, who underlined Putin’s “relaxed tone”.

“I think, given the relaxed tone that prevailed, the distance that he seemed to have, he was just playing with my attempts to convince him to negotiate.”

Boris Johnson left the British government in September last year, but continues to express his unconditional support for Ukraine. He recently was in kyiv meeting with Volodymyr Zelensky.
