The preliminary number of victims of the attack on a mosque in Pakistan has risen to 28 dead and 96 injured, the BBC reports.
According to the Pakistani authorities, most of the victims of the attack on the mosque are police officers.
So far, the attack in Peshawar, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, close to the Afghan border, has gone unclaimed.

Zafar Khan, a local police officer, told The Associated Press that rescuers were trying to evacuate the injured to take them to a hospital near the mosque.
The same source said it was apparently a suicide bomber attack, but stressed that the investigation is still ongoing.
Zafar Khan added that “most of the injured” are in a condition considered serious, fearing the death toll could rise.
Although the attack has not been claimed, the authorities suspect the Pakistani Taliban, who have carried out similar attacks.
The Pakistani Taliban, known as the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan or by its acronym TTP, are a different group from the Taliban that currently control Afghanistan.
The TTP has been operating in Pakistan for over 15 years.
