The Kremlin accuses the Baltic states and Poland of rising war tensions with Ukraine

The Russian presidency (Kremlin) on Tuesday accused the Baltic countries (Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia) and Poland of wanting to step up tensions in the conflict with Ukraine without considering the consequences, and defended sending more weapons to Kiev.

“In general, we see an extremely aggressive approach from representatives of the Baltic countries and Poland, who are apparently ready to provoke an increase in clashes without thinking about the consequences”Kremlin spokesman Dmitro Peskov said at his usual daily press conference.

In response to statements by Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda asking the West to supply Ukraine with missiles and long-range fighter jets, Peskov lamented that “leaders of major European countries are not trying to balance representatives with extremist tendencies”.

The spokesman reiterated that “the increased involvement of the West in the conflict” is becoming increasingly apparent in Ukraine, reiterating that the situation “will not change the course of events”.

Following the decision by the United States and the European Union to send tanks to Ukraine, Kiev requested the delivery of fighter jets, a request that has already been rejected by Germany and the United States.

US President Joe Biden said on Monday, when questioned by reporters at the White House, that he will not send F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine.

French President Emmanuel Macron admitted on Monday that “nothing is out of the question” when it comes to helping Ukraine, including sending fighter jets, though he warned the decision would be “a very big step”.
