The President of the Spanish Government, Pedro Sánchez, announced this Tuesday that the Government has reached an agreement with the unions to increase the national minimum wage by 8%, up to 1,080 euros per month. The agreement will benefit some two million workers in Spain.
According to the leader of the Executive in the Spanish Senate, the agreement was reached this Tuesday between the representatives of the Ministry of Labor and the unions, despite the rejection of the Spanish Confederation of Business Organizations (CEOE), which represents the employers. .
With this increase, the Executive is close to the goal of raising the minimum wage to 60% of the average Spanish wage.
The Spanish Minister of Labor, Yolanda Díaz, has been pressing in recent weeks for this increase to take place, according to El País, in order to alleviate price increases caused by inflation.
In addition, the Spanish Government had already increased pensions by 8.5% and improved the salaries of civil servants by 2.5%, plus an additional point for the objectives achieved this year.
The average salary increase in the private sector in Spain is around 2.8%, although there are companies that have reached inflation figures.
