Russian diplomacy on Wednesday deemed it “absurd” that French President Emmanuel Macron could say that arms deliveries to Ukraine did not constitute an escalation.
“It’s absurd,” the spokesperson for Russian diplomacy, Maria Zakharova, criticized before the press.
“Is the French president really sure that deliveries of heavy weapons, planes to the Kyiv regime (…) will not lead to an escalation of the situation?” he added. “I can’t believe this is adult logic,” he said.
On the shipment of aircraft, “nothing is excluded”
The diplomat was questioned at a news conference about Emmanuel Macron’s comments on Monday about possible deliveries of fighter jets to Ukraine. The French president had stressed that each decision to hand over weapons had to meet “criteria”, in particular that it “was not an escalation” and that it was “not likely to touch Russian soil”.
“By definition, nothing is excluded,” he added.
France announced on Tuesday that it would supply Ukraine with 12 Caesar guns, in addition to the 18 such guns already delivered, but Paris is currently refusing to hand over its Leclerc tanks.
