Ukraine: Human rights commissioner accuses Russia of kidnapping children for sexual purposes

Ukraine’s human rights commissioner on Thursday accused the Russians of kidnapping children from Ukraine to fuel sex trafficking.

“Accounts (in the social network application) Telegram reveal that Russians kidnap Ukrainian children and make sexual videos with them”Ukrainian Parliamentary Commissioner for Human Rights Dmytro Lubinets said in a post on the Telegram social network.

“For example, they offer a Ukrainian man for 250 rubles (more than 3200 euros)”he added, assuring him that he was an orphan.

Dmytro Lubinets published an excerpt from an exchange of messages on an unknown platform on the Internet, in which two people discussed the involvement of a young boy in the making of a child pornography film.

“He comes from Ukraine, from an orphanage, he has no parents”, wrote one of the people. And then: “We involve young children in this kind of work. It’s not the first one we’ve engaged.”

Dmytro Lubinets did not say how he got the message exchanged. And he called on the Ukrainian police and judiciary to “take appropriate measures to find and punish the perpetrators”.

“The Russian Federation is treacherously kidnapping, murdering, deporting and raping our children”he said questioningly: “How is this possible in today’s world?”

Crimes against children, including sexual abuse, are common in Russia.

Ukraine accuses Russian forces of abducting and abducting thousands of children, including orphans, from Moscow-controlled areas.

In September, UN investigators accused Moscow of “massive” war crimes in Ukraine, including torture and sexual violence.

The military offensive launched by Russia in Ukraine on February 24, 2022 has so far led to the flight of more than 14 million people – 6.5 million internally displaced persons and more than 7.9 million to European countries -, according to the latest data from the UN, which classifies this refugee crisis as the worst in Europe since World War II (1939-1945).

Currently, 17.7 million Ukrainians need humanitarian aid and 9.3 million need food aid and shelter.

The Russian invasion – justified by the Russian President, Vladimir Putin, with the need to “denazify” and demilitarize Ukraine for Russian security – was condemned by the international community at large, which responded by sending weapons to Ukraine and Russia political and economic sanctions.

The UN presented 7,031 dead civilians and 11,327 wounded as confirmed since the start of the war, underlining that these numbers are far below the real ones.
