Towards a new case of a Chinese “spy” balloon? In a statement released on Saturday, the Colombian Air Force confirmed that an object with “balloon characteristics” was detected by its air defense system at an altitude of 55,000 feet.
According to this document, the balloon entered “Colombian airspace through the northern sector of the country, traveling at an average speed of 25 knots.” A presence that Washington had already mentioned, who had targeted a second ball in Latin America, but without giving further details.
‘It is not a threat’
Also according to the Colombian Air Force, the object “did not represent a threat to national security and defense, as well as to air safety” and was tracked “until it left the airspace.”
However, the authorities are conducting investigations in collaboration with other countries “to establish the origin of the object.”
On Saturday, the United States shot down the Chinese balloon that had been flying over its soil for several days. Saturday’s operation of an F-22 fighter jet took place “over waters off the coast of South Carolina, in US airspace,” US Defense Minister Lloyd Austin said in a statement. Unhappy, China said it “reserves the right” to retaliate.
