At least three people died in Poland on Saturday due to a snow and wind storm also affecting Slovakia and the Czech Republic, Polish authorities said.
Deaths were reported in Gdanks, Cisiec, near the country’s southern border with Slovakia, and in Wiazownica, near Jaroslaw (east), in three separate incidents caused by bad weather.
In Slovakia, strong winds and snowfall hit the north of the country, prompting authorities to declare an emergency situation in several municipalities.
Several ski resorts were closed due to the storm, and according to the Slovakian news channel TA3, a hurricane was reported in the Chopek region.
In the Czech Republic, falling trees caused power outages to thousands of homes, the Czech news agency CTK reported.
Near the town of Jablonné nad Orlicí, on the border with Poland, emergency services rescued several people who were trapped in vehicles, it added.
