“I will not kill Zelensky.” Putin’s assurances to the former Israeli prime minister

Vladimir Putin has assured former Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett that he has no intention of assassinating Volodymyr Zelensky.

In an interview given to journalist Hanoch Daum and published on the YouTube by Naftalli Bennett, the former leader of Israel shared some details: “I knew Zelensky was under threat, in a bunker. I said to Putin: ‘Are you planning to kill Zelensky?’, he replied: ‘I will not kill Zelensky’.”

Then the former Israeli Prime Minister told Putin: “I have to understand if you give me your word that you will not kill Zelensky,” something Vladimir Putin is said to have replied, reassuring that he would not kill the Ukrainian president.

Within days of the start of the conflict, Naftali Bennett assumed the role of go-between, one of the few leaders to meet Putin during the war, during a short trip to Moscow in March.

According to Naftali Bennett, the former Israeli prime minister left the meeting with Putin and called Zelensky, guaranteeing the Ukrainian president that he would not be assassinated. Also according to Bennett, when Putin acted as an intermediary between the parties, he would have given up on the pursuit of the demilitarization of Ukraine, with Zelensky promising him not to join NATO.

For now, there is no response from the Kremlin – which has historically denied all of Ukraine’s claims that Zelensky was a target to be shot.

On the other hand, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba reacted on Twitter this Sunday to Bennett’s words: “Don’t be fooled: he [Putin] he is a skilled liar. Whenever he promised not to do something, it turned out to be exactly part of his plan.”
