The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, presented several bills in parliament on Monday to approve the decrees of martial law and general mobilization in the country.
The bills propose to extend the martial law and general mobilization period for another three months from February 19, Ukrainska Pravda reported.
According to the documents, the laws will take effect shortly after they are approved.
On November 16, the Verkhovna Rada parliament (parliament) extended martial law and general mobilization in Ukraine until February 19, 2023.
On the day of the military invasion of Russia, February 24, 2022, kyiv declared martial law in the country and announced the general mobilization of the population until March 26.
Subsequently, the Verkhovna Rada extended martial law and general mobilization five times, until April 25, May 25, August 23, November 21, 2022, and February 19, 2023.
The Russian invasion – justified by Russian President Vladimir Putin as the need to “denazify” and demilitarize Ukraine for Russia’s security – was condemned by the wider international community, which has responded by sending arms to Ukraine and imposing them on Russia in political and economic sanctions.
