The Minister of Labour, Solidarity and Social Security told Lusa on Monday that she will meet in New York with Ukraine’s Minister of Social Policy for an assessment of the integration and reception program of Ukrainians in Portugal.
Ana Mendes Godinho told Lusa, at United Nations (UN) headquarters in New York, that she will use the meeting with the Ukrainian minister to reaffirm Portugal’s willingness to cooperate with Kiev.
“The aim of the meeting is to take stock of the program for the integration and reception of Ukrainian citizens in Portugal and, of course, to maintain our full availability to cooperate with the Ukrainian government in all that is required from the point of view of integration and reception of Ukrainian citizens and also Ukrainian children,” said the Portuguese minister.
“Since the beginning (of the conflict) we have been in contact with the Ukrainian government on this issue and so it will be an opportunity to assess how this integration of works in Portugal has taken place,” the official added.
Ana Mendes Godinho will participate in the 61st Session of the Social Development Commission of the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs, in a meeting focused on the themes of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, post-pandemic challenges, decent work, fighting inequality and dialogue between generations.
Portugal will take the opportunity to defend “the need to clearly invest in valuing work as a key element in the fight against inequality” and will also present the “child guarantee program being implemented in Portugal”, the minister said.
Meetings Ana Mendes Godinho will hold in New York include meetings with former International Labor Organization (ILO) Director General Guy Ryder; and with the Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, Amina Mohammed.
