The US e-commerce company eBay intends to lay off 500 workers, equivalent to four percent of its workforce, according to documents delivered on Tuesday to the US stock exchange authority (SEC, in its acronym in English).
In the document, also transmitted to the workers, the president of the company, Jamie Iannone, indicated that the notification to the dismissed workers will be made in the next 24 hours.
Iannone justified the decision with “the macroeconomic situation in the world” in recent months and the need to change the structure of the company, so that it has sustainable and long-term growth, including possible new jobs.”
eBay is the latest of the big US technology companies to announce massive layoffs, after a large number of companies, including conglomerates such as Microsoft and Alphabet, revealed their intentions in recent weeks and laid off tens of thousands of workers.
