Turkish emergency teams managed to rescue a father and daughter about 90 hours after they were buried under the rubble of an earthquake-ravaged building on Monday.
Rescue and search teams found the two survivors on Thursday in the town of Odabasi, in southern Turkey’s Hatay province, near the border with Syria, Turkish state news agency Anatolia reported.
The father and 5-year-old daughter were taken to hospital after first aid.
While experts say humans can survive for a week or more, the chances of finding survivors decrease in freezing temperatures.
The average time a person can stay alive without taking in water or food in disasters like an earthquake is 72 hours, but operations continue to find earthquake survivors in Turkey and Syria.
Turkish authorities said more than 120,000 rescue teams are taking part in the effort, with more than 5,500 vehicles and aid from 95 countries, including Portugal and Brazil.
Aerial footage shows the extent of the devastation, with entire high-rise neighborhoods reduced to twisted metal, shotcrete and exposed electrical wires.
More than 20,400 people have died in the aftermath of the violent earthquake that hit southeastern Turkey and northern Syria on Monday, according to official figures released Thursday evening.
