Russian MNE says Russia “will come out stronger” from confrontation with the West

Russia’s foreign minister said the country will “get stronger” from confronting the West in Ukraine, despite calls to “cut up” Russian territory.

“Calls to dismember our homeland are getting louder and louder. But it is clear that we will not only resist, but also emerge stronger from this confrontation.”said Lavrov, quoted by the news agency BAG.

Speaking at an event to mark Russia’s Diplomats’ Day, Lavrov stressed that “it is necessary to build international relations on a just and equitable basis, as required by the UN Charter”.

“Those who try to control the entire international agenda, global economic relations, all international politics, decided to impose a strategic defeat on Russia, decided to repeat the sad experience of Napoleon and Hitler”said Lavrov.

But, the Russian minister added, Russia will continue its efforts to create “a multipolar system” with a level playing field for countries’ development.

Last week, Russia’s head of diplomacy stated that Moscow had long warned Western countries that they were “going in the wrong direction”.

According to Lavrov, the decision on the military offensive in Ukraine was made by Russian President Vladimir Putin “after years of explaining” to the West about the impermissibility of ignoring Russian security demands.
