Two policemen were stabbed this Friday in central London, one of whom suffered serious injuries, according to British media.
The incident took place around 6:00am near Leicester Square and a man in his 20s was arrested.
The stabbing of the two officers comes as London prepares for the biggest security operation of the century, with preparations for the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II.
According to a police statement, the two officers were taken to hospital, pending updates on their condition.
Scotland Yard added that “a Taser [arma de choque] was used and a man was arrested on suspicion of causing bodily harm and assault on an emergency services worker.”
The police are investigating the circumstances of the incident, but have already ruled out that it is a terrorist act, according to AFP.
Sadiq Khan, the mayor of London, has already reacted to the incident, calling it a “terrible” and “disgraceful” attack and asking for information from anyone who witnessed the stabbing.
“These brave officers were doing their duty and helping at this important time for our country,” he said, adding “thoughts and prayers” are with the mistreated officers and colleagues.
