The United States, by order of President Joe Biden, has just shot down a “high-flying object” over Alaska, a White House spokesman said on Friday, without elaborating on its nature or origin.
This “object,” which he said was “the size of a small car,” posed “a threat to the safety of air traffic,” said John Kirby, a spokesman for the White House National Security Council.
He said the object was “much smaller” than the Chinese balloon that the United States destroyed last Saturday and that Washington said was conducting espionage operations.
The owner still unknown
The US administration became aware “last night” of the presence of this object whose remains fell into icy waters, and will try to recover them, said John Kirby.
“We do not know to which entity this object belongs,” he hammered, nor, for example, if it is a State or a private owner.
The spokesman also specified that, unlike the Chinese balloon, this still unidentified object did not appear to have a propulsion system or controls that would allow it to steer.
