The World Bank is giving 50 million euros to restore Ukraine’s transport network

The World Bank on Friday announced the approval of a new project to restore Ukraine’s transportation network, to which nearly 50 million euros will be allocated.

Funding for this project will come from the Ukraine Aid, Recovery, Reconstruction and Reform Trust Fund (URTF), which was established by the World Bank to coordinate the grant to maintain the functions of the Government of Ukraine, provide services and help the country.

This is the second World Bank-backed emergency operation approved in recent months (the first was last December and focused on restoring health infrastructure).

The Remediation of Essential Logistics Infrastructure and Network Connectivity Project (RELINC) will also help restore bridges and railways essential to bring communities together and improve transport links, mitigating the impact of maritime transport disruptions in the Black Sea .

Support will be provided for the purchase of modular bridges, equipment and materials to repair damaged roads and vital railway lines, in addition to financing the purchase of railway equipment.

“This project supports the delivery of essential aid and services to communities directly affected by the war and boosts Ukraine’s economy,” said Anna Bjerde, World Bank Vice President for Europe and Central Asia.

According to the World Bank, more than 2,100 villages, 51 towns and 35 towns in areas that have returned to the control of the Ukrainian government are experiencing disruptions in transportation networks.

So far, the World Bank has mobilized more than €18 billion in emergency funding for Ukraine.
