Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced Saturday that the military had shot down an unidentified flying object high above northern Canada, repeating a similar action by the United States of America (USA) on Friday.
“I ordered the shooting down of an unidentified object that violated Canadian airspace. NORAD [Comando de Defesa Aeroespacial Norte-Americano] shot down the object in Yukon airspace, the Canadian and US Air Forces teamed up and a US F-22 successfully fired on the object,” the Canadian official wrote on Twitter.
The unidentified flying object is the third to violate US airspace in the last two weeks.
In a second message, quoted by the Associated Press news agency, Trudeau added: “I spoke with the president [dos Estados Unidos] Biden this afternoon. The Canadian armed forces will now collect and analyze the remains of the object. Thanks to NORAD for watching over North America.”
A suspected Chinese spy balloon spent nearly a week hovering over US and Canadian airspace before being shot down by US planes last week.
The US military shot down a second object in Alaskan airspace on Friday, but authorities did not provide details on the type of flying object shot down.
