Russia says it has blocked arms shipments by rail to Kiev

Russian authorities have announced that they have blocked the railways that allow arms and ammunition to be transported, including from abroad, to Ukrainian forces in the battle zones.

The blockade was announced by the Russian Defense Ministry in its daily military bulletin on Saturday, which did not reveal exactly where rail transport was interrupted.

In the same bulletin, the ministry also confirmed the execution on Friday of the largest rocket attack on Ukraine since the invasion of the country began almost a year ago.

The defense ministry said it was a missile and drone offensive aimed at damaging Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.

The bulletin claimed that all targets supplying Ukraine’s military industry and transportation system had been hit, something denied by Ukrainian authorities, who claim to have shot down at least 60 of about 70 missiles launched.

Kharkiv military governor Oleh Synehubov confirmed that the Russian attack injured eight people and left nearly 150,000 homes without electricity in northeastern Ukraine.

Synehubov told the Telegram platform that the eight injured, who were repairing damage caused by a previous attack, had to be hospitalized, two of whom were in serious condition.

In a video message recorded on his return to Ukraine after touring several European countries, the Ukrainian president stressed that several of the Russian missiles had passed through the airspace of Moldova and Romania.

“These missiles are a challenge to NATO and to collective security. (…) The world must stop this,” said Volodymyr Zelensky, who thanked the air force for its work in defense of the population.

Moldova on Friday summoned Moscow’s ambassador to Chisinau, Oleg Vasnetsov, over the “unacceptable violation” of Moldovan space, according to a statement published on the Chisinau diplomacy portal.

The same note adds that “Russia continues its aggressive war against Ukraine” and that “missile attacks on the neighboring country [Ucrânia] directly and negatively affect the lives of Moldovan citizens”.

The military offensive launched by Russia in Ukraine on February 24, 2022 has led to the flight of more than 14 million people so far, according to the latest UN data, which ranks this refugee crisis as the worst in Europe since World War II (1939). -1945).

The Russian invasion was condemned by the international community at large, which responded by sending weapons to Ukraine and imposing political and economic sanctions on Russia.

The UN presented 7,155 civilian deaths and 11,662 wounded as confirmed since the start of the war, underlining that these numbers are far below the real ones.
