At least 33,179 people have died as a result of the violent earthquake that shook Turkey and Syria on Monday, according to official data released today.
The 7.8-magnitude quake killed 29,605 people in southern Turkey, said Afad, the country’s relief organization, while authorities counted another 3,574 dead in Syria.
Figures updated today also indicate that 92,600 people were injured in this natural disaster.
The two countries were hit early Monday by an earthquake measuring 7.8 on the Richter scale, followed by several aftershocks, one of which measured 7.5.
