The Moldovan president accuses Russia of plotting a coup

Moldova’s president accused Russia on Monday of planning a coup in the country with the help of citizens of Belarus, Serbia and Montenegro trained by the military to carry out violent acts disguised as protests.

“The plan aims to use subversive elements with military training, dressed in civilian clothes, to organize violent actions, carry out attacks on some state institutions and take hostages”said Maia Sandu in a message broadcast live in the main Moldovan media.

The aim is to “force the change of power in Chisinau through violent actions disguised as protests by the so-called opposition”.emphasized the liberal and Europeanist president.

Sandu pointed out that Ukraine’s documents – whose president, Volodymyr Zelensky, denounced a Russian plan to destabilize Moldova in Brussels last week – “indicate the places and logistics of the organization of this subversive activity”.

“The plan also provides for the use of foreigners for violent actions”, with “instructions on the rules for entering Moldova [aplicadas] to citizens of Russia, Belarus, Serbia and Montenegro”said the head of state.

Sandu also denounced that Russia also “wants to use various internal forces, especially criminal groups, such as the formation (pro-Russian politician) Shor and all its members, veterans and people close to (the fleeing oligarch, Vladimir) Plahotniuc in the implementation of the plan”.

The Moldovan president reiterated that the purpose of these actions “is to undermine the constitutional order and convert the legitimate power of Chisinau into an illegitimate power to place the country at the disposal of Russia”.

With this, Moscow wants to “stop the process of European integration, but also allow Russia to use Moldova in its war against Ukraine,” he warned.

Sandu assured that state security authorities are working to prevent these provocations and to keep the situation under control.

However, the Moldovan president deemed it necessary for the parliament of the former Soviet republic to “pass as soon as possible the bills that will provide the Information and Security Service (SIS) and the Public Prosecutor’s Office with the necessary tools to deal with the struggle more effectively”. the risks to the security of the country”.

“All those who participate in these actions against the state of the Republic of Moldova – foreign elements, members of political parties and criminal groups – and all those who protect them will be held accountable”Sandu said.

“The Kremlin’s attempts to organize violence in our country will not succeed. We remain calm and believe in Moldova,” he concluded.

Moldova on Friday summoned Moscow’s ambassador to Chisinau, Oleg Vasnetsov, to protest the “unacceptable violation” of Moldovan space, after two Russian cruise missiles reportedly flew over the airspace of NATO country Romania and from Moldova before hitting Ukraine. entered.
