Muhammed Cafer, 18, was pulled from the rubble of a building in southern Turkey on Tuesday. This was the third rescue of this, according to Reuters, the eighth day after the Feb. 6 earthquake and about 198 hours after that devastating quake, when humanitarian workers shifted the focus of work to the displaced.

Muhammed Cafer, whose rescue was reported by broadcaster CNN Turk, can be seen wiggling his fingers as he was carried by rescuers.
A little earlier, two brothers had been rescued alive from the ruins of a building in Turkey’s Kahramanmaras province. Identified by the news agency as Muhammed Enes Yeninar, 17, and Baki Yeninar, 21, the two were taken to hospital, although their condition was unclear.

Even earlier, a boy and man were rescued in the hard-hit Kahramanmaras, as rescuers continued to try to reach a grandmother, mother and daughter of a family that appeared to have survived.
After eight days, hopes of finding survivors dwindle, despite these cases, which seem more like miracles. The earthquake on the 6th was one of the deadliest in modern Turkish history, with a combined death toll in the country and neighboring Syria of more than 37,000.
Rescue teams work hard to rescue people still clinging to life. But some have begun to reduce operations as the low temperatures have reduced their already slim chances of survival, and others are announcing returns to their countries of origin.
