American musician and producer Pharrell Williams was named creative director of Louis Vuitton’s men’s collections on Tuesday, the luxury brand announced.
According to the company, which belongs to the French group LVMH, the appointment takes effect immediately, as Pharrell Williams will present his first collection in June at Paris Men’s Fashion Week.
At Louis Vuitton, Pharrell Williams, 49, will succeed Virgil Abloh, who passed away in November 2021 at the age of 41.
For the luxury brand, Pharrell Williams is a “visionary” whose creative universe extends from music, art and fashion, and who has established himself as “a universal cultural icon in the last twenty years”.
“His ability to blur the boundaries between the different universes he explores fits naturally with the cultural dimension of Louis Vuitton,” the company statement read.
Musician, composer, producer, who was at the origin of the Neptunes and NERD, he has long been seen as an influential figure also in fashion, thanks to his collaborations with the Japanese brand Nigo, Adidas and Chanel.
Pharrell Williams has also occasionally collaborated with Louis Vuitton in 2004 and 2008.
The French group of luxury brands LVMH, which in 2022 achieved the highest profits in its history, with 14,084 million euros, includes brands such as Louis Vuitton, Dior, Tiffany, Christian Dior, Bulgari, Kenzo and Moët & Chandon.
