Scottish first minister resigns

Scottish National Party (SNP) leader Nicola Sturgeon is expected to step down as Scotland’s first minister after eight years at the helm of government, the BBC reported on Wednesday.

According to the BBC and other British media, the leader of the Scottish National Party is expected to make the announcement at a press conference in Edinburgh, which has been scheduled for 11:00 a.m.

It is not yet clear when Nicola Sturgeon will step down as Scotland’s first minister.

The ruler has been head of government since November 2014, when she replaced Alex Salmond, after the independence referendum.

However, a source close to Sturgeon told the BBC the minister said: “That’s enough.”

In January, the British government vetoed a bill that was intended to facilitate the gender change process from the age of 16 in Scotland, defending the decision with the “guarantee of safety for women and children.”

The first minister of Scotland and leader of the SNP, Nicola Sturgeon, considered this decision by the Government of the United Kingdom as a “frontal attack” on the autonomy of the Scottish parliament.
