World Bank president resigns

The president of the World Bank, David Malpass, 66, will leave office at the end of June, some four years after assuming these functions, according to a note released this Wednesday.

Malpass was the 13th president of the Washington-based World Bank, and during his tenure, the statement said, focused “on pursuing stronger policies” to increase economic growth, alleviate poverty, improve living standards and reduce poverty. government debt burden.

“It has been a tremendous honor and privilege to serve as president of the world’s leading development institution alongside so many talented and exceptional individuals,” Malpass added in the statement.

“With developing countries facing unprecedented crises, I am proud that the Bank group has responded with speed, scale, innovation and impact,” he added, noting that the last four years have been “some of the most significant” of his career.

Malpass thanked the staff and boards of directors “for the privilege of working” with them on a daily basis “to strengthen the effectiveness” of the Bank’s operations “in the most difficult of times.”

With developing countries under severe financial pressure, Malpass has been meeting with world leaders to discuss policy support, including debt relief.

“The Bank Group is fundamentally sound, financially sustainable and well positioned to increase its development impact in the face of urgent global crises,” Malpass added.

In his view, “this is an opportunity for a smooth leadership transition” as the Bank works to address growing global challenges.
