Footage from the first divers’ expedition to the wreckage of the Titanic has now been revealed by the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution. The footage was captured in 1986 by the Alvin, a three-person submarine, and the remote-controlled Jason Jr.
The video shows the condition of the passenger ship. In the footage, the submarine explores the bow and deck of the Titanic, and it is also possible to see the captain’s cabin and a window and the exterior of the ship.
The Titanic sank in 1912 when it collided with an iceberg while traveling between Southampton, in the south of England, and New York, in the United States.
The wreck was found in 1985 by the joint exploration of the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution and the Institut Français de Recherche Pour l’Exploitation de la Mer, a French oceanographic exploration organization.
