Moldova finds remnants of another missile near the border

A border police patrol of Moldova this Thursday found the remains of another missile in Briceni district, in the north of the country and close to Ukraine, a projectile that will be linked to Russian attacks on Ukrainian territory.

According to the Moldpres news agency, Moldova’s Ministry of Interior indicated that the area was quickly surrounded, while members of the emergency services and the Directorate General of Police moved to the site.

This is the fourth time since the start of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine on February 24 last year that Moldovan authorities have found missile remnants on Moldovan territory near the border with Ukraine.

On January 25, Moldovan Defense Minister Anatolia Nosatii defended that the country should review its military strategy and form alliances to face the challenges to its security posed by the Russian military campaign in Ukraine.

“The events in Ukraine oblige us to rethink our strategy and prepare for the security challenges,” said the minister, deploring the fact that the army – an estimated 6,500 professional soldiers (plus 2,000 military personnel who perform compulsory military service every year) ) – has received “little attention” so far.

“Our ‘neutral’ status left us alone, with a defense system that is not in line with modern realities,” he said, defending the establishment of military alliances without relinquishing the neutrality enshrined in the constitution.

“It can be local or regional alliances. The configuration can vary. As for the [entrada na] BORN [Organização do Tratado do Atlântico Norte]The Moldavia No is technically prepared for this process,” he admitted.

Nosatii added that the main obstacle to joining the Atlantic alliance remains the lack of support from the majority of citizens.
