Charles III commits to defend religious “diversity” in the United Kingdom

The new British monarch, Carlos III, promised this Friday to protect the “diversity” of beliefs in the United Kingdom, before some thirty religious leaders, at Buckingham Palace in London.

The king, who as British sovereign serves as supreme governor of the Anglican Church, said he sees the country as a “community of communities” and that he sees it as his responsibility “to protect the space of faith.”

“Diversity is not only enshrined in the laws of this country, it is implicit in my own faith. As a member of the Church of England, my Christian beliefs have love at their core,” she said.

“Both because of my deepest convictions and because of my status as a sovereign, I consider myself obliged to respect those who follow other spiritual paths, as well as those who seek to live their lives according to secular ideals,” added the monarch.

Carlos III, who tonight along with his three brothers participates in a vigil in the fiery chamber of Isabel II, thanked the religious leaders for the condolences they conveyed to him for the death of his mother, last week, at the age of 96.

“I am grateful to have had the opportunity to meet with you today, following my ascension. [ao trono]under circumstances that are inevitably sad for me and my family.”

“Your kind words of condolence touched me more than I can express. They mean a lot to me,” he emphasized.
