At least 15 people have been killed in an Israeli airstrike on a residential building in Damascus, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (OSDH) announced tonight in Beirut.
According to the OSDH, civilians were among the victims after the attack hit a building near an Iranian cultural center in the Syrian capital.
In Damascus, the official Syrian agency SANA had previously referred to “dead and wounded”, without specifying the number. Sana also indicated that several buildings were damaged.
Israel has launched hundreds of airstrikes against Syria since the start of the neighboring country’s civil war in 2011, targeting positions of the Syrian army, Iranian forces and Lebanese Hezbollah, allies of the Damascus regime.
The Jewish state rarely comments on its attacks on Syria, but regularly says it will not allow Iran to extend its influence beyond Israel’s borders.
In July 2022, two civilians were injured in an Israeli attack south of Tartus, on Syria’s western coast, according to the Syrian Defense Ministry.
