Putin and Biden in a war of speech

A few hours later, next Tuesday, Vladimir Putin delivered a State of the Nation speech in Moscow in which he is expected to assess the progress of what he called a “special operation” almost a year ago in Ukraine, in Poland – where he would should arrive on Monday but should not do so until a day later – Joe Biden should leave a clear message to his Russian counterpart that the US is on the side of the Ukrainians and will continue to do so “as long as it takes” as explained by the spokesman for the National Security Council of the US Presidency.

A veritable war of speeches on the eve of the first anniversary of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, on February 24, when the conflict seems far from over.

Putin will be the first to speak before the Federal Assembly tomorrow morning, with Kremlin spokesman Dmitri Peskov reminding that “our whole life now revolves around the special military operation, which has somehow affected our lives, affects life on the continent And that’s why the president should be expected to pay close attention.”

The intervention, which will be broadcast again by all public television stations in the country, but for which the Kremlin has banned foreign media from countries considered “enemies” from believing each other, will coincide with the date that the Russian president recognized a years ago , the independence of Donestsk and Lugansk, a prelude to the beginning of the war campaign. A “special military operation” that justified the need to “liberate the people of Donbass from genocide” and “denazify” Ukraine.

Joe Biden will speak at the end of the afternoon in the arcades of the historic Royal Castle in Warsaw, which is located some 800 km from Kiev. Despite the growing reluctance of some republican sectors, the president should defend the continuity of financial, political and military support to the Ukrainians and underline NATO’s interest in this support.

After Biden made a surprise visit to the border with Ukraine in March last year, on another trip to Poland, where he met military personnel, no such trip is planned this time. Indeed, the US president should meet with the Polish president, Andrzej Duda – whose office announced that the arrival of the US head of state has been postponed from today to tomorrow -, and with the leaders of the countries of the group known as ” Bucharest 9″ : Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania and Slovakia.

State Secretary Antony Blinken left a warning in statements to CBS on Sunday: China is considering sending weapons to Russia. Speaking to his Chinese counterpart, Wang Yi, after a meeting on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference, the head of US diplomacy assured: “The concern we have now is based on the information we have that [a China] is considering providing lethal support” to Moscow to be used in the invasion of Ukraine. And he specified that such action would “include everything from ammunition to the weapons themselves”, claiming in Munich that the US has evidence that Russia ” crimes against humanity” in Ukraine.
