The Chinese government on Monday accused the United States of wanting to maintain its “global hegemony,” which it deemed a “global risk,” in a report released at a time of rising tensions between the two countries.
The document, titled “The Hegemony of the United States and Its Dangers”, states that since World War II, Washington has acted with “more audacity” to “interfere in the internal affairs of other countries”.
Beijing analyzes the political, military, economic, technological and cultural “hegemony” of the United States throughout history – from Beijing’s point of view – at a time when bilateral relations are experiencing a period of renewed tensions caused by the “crisis of balloons” or divisions in the face of the war in Ukraine.
China’s foreign ministry blames the US for organizing “color revolutions” or launching wars to “promote democracy”, fueling a “bloc policy” that “fuels conflict and confrontation”.
China cites as an example the “interference resulting from the ‘New Monroe Doctrine'” in Latin America, used to defend the principle of “America for the Americans”, but which, according to the Chinese authorities, stands for “America for the United States”. “. .
Also cited is a book by former US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, in which the politician revealed that the US country “intended to intervene in Venezuela” to, among other things, “force Maduro to reach an agreement with the opposition or “to deprive the country of the ability to sell oil or gold in exchange for foreign currency”.
The document highlights all of the conflicts the United States has been involved in since independence in 1976, noting that the country has an annual military budget of $700 billion, which covers “40% of the total at the planetary level” and is greater than the combined value of the defense spending of the “15 countries directly behind the list”.
Next on the list are China, India, the United Kingdom and Russia, according to the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI).
The Chinese report also highlights that “US hegemony at the economic level” was achieved after the establishment of various organizations to “form the international monetary system around the US dollar”, which is the “main source of instability and uncertainty in the global economy” . “.
And he argues that the US “injected billions of dollars into the global market” during the Covid-19 pandemic, causing the devaluation of other currencies and high levels of inflation in “several developing countries”.
On the technology front, China emphasizes that the US is “trying to discourage the scientific development of other countries” by “exercising a monopoly and restrictions in high-tech sectors”.
And he believes that the “global expansion” of North American culture is an essential part of his “foreign strategy”.
The United States must “critically examine” its actions and renounce “arrogance and prejudice” and “harassing practices,” the same report reads.
Relations between Beijing and Washington have deteriorated rapidly in recent years due to a trade and technology war, disputes over human rights, the status of Hong Kong and Taiwan or the sovereignty of the South China Sea.
