Several Russian radio stations broadcast warnings on Wednesday of possible bombings in a massive computer attack on Russian media as Russia’s military invasion of Ukraine takes place.
Radio stations, which reproduced air sirens, urged the population to remain alert and move to shelters as soon as possible.
“There is a threat of a missile attack”, including stations such as Relax FM, Avtoradio and Humor FM.
Residents of the cities of Piatigorsh, Tyumen, Voronezh, Kazan, Magnitogorsk and Belgorod, as well as Ufa and Novouralsk, heard the warning, according to information from the Meduza news portal.
The Russian authorities announced that there had been a large-scale computer attack on the servers of the radio stations and stated that “warnings of a possible missile attack had been issued on these servers as a result of the attack”.
However, the Russian authorities emphasized that this is false information, intended to sow panic among the population.
“What happened will be thoroughly investigated,” they assured.
Last June, several radio stations in the country were hit by a computer attack that caused the broadcast of Ukrainian patriotic songs.
