Russia has built a defense line on the Crimean peninsula to ensure the safety of the population, the region’s chief Sergei Aksionov said on Wednesday.
“If you want peace, prepare for war. Crimea is Russian and will remain Russian, whatever plans others may have.”, Aksionov stated when presenting the fortifications to journalists. The Ukrainian peninsula of Crimea was annexed by Russia in 2014.
“I am responsible for the territorial defense of Crimea, I am in complete control of the situation (…)”, he told the press. According to Aksionov, this initiative aims to guarantee the safety of the population who supported Russian President Vladimir Putin.
“The line of fortifications occupies the entire Crimea, in the area of their borders. If it is not necessary, it does not matter, we will organize excursions in the future. But for now it is better to be ready”he added, noting that these are preventive measures.
