The British Prime Minister urged G7 allies, who are meeting by videoconference this Friday to mark the first year of the war, to speed up the delivery of artillery to the Ukrainian army and long-range weapons.
“For Ukraine to win this war – and for that day to come sooner – it must gain a decisive advantage on the battlefield.” will defend Rishi Sunak at the meeting of the seven most industrialized countries in the world, according to his agency (Downing Streat).
“Rather than taking a step-by-step approach, our priority should be to move faster against artillery, armor and air defences,” the British Prime Minister added. quoted by AFP.
Rishi Sunak wants to call on the leaders of the G7, the United States, Japan, Germany, France, Italy and Canada, as well as the United Kingdom, to supply “long-range weapons” to the Ukrainian armed forces.
According to Downing Street, after announcing the training of Ukrainian fighter pilots, the British ruler “repeated his offer of British support to countries capable of supplying aircraft to Ukraine to immediately assist it in this conflict”.
The United Kingdom, the first country to pledge heavy tanks to Kiev, opened up the possibility of supplying aircraft under NATO, but specified that pilot training would take up to three years.
The Ukrainian army has aircraft designed by the Soviet Union.
The Russian military offensive on Ukrainian territory, launched on February 24 last year, plunged Europe into what is considered the most serious security crisis since World War II (1939-1945).
