One Palestinian died and another 300 were injured after several attacks by Israeli settlers at various locations in the Nablus area, in the West Bank, on Sunday night, the international press reported Monday.
On Sunday evening, hundreds of Israeli settlers invaded the Palestinian towns of Huwara, Burin, Zatara, Odala and Asira al-Qabaliyya armed with knives, sticks, stones, firearms and attacked Palestinians.
Israeli settlers set fire to 75 Palestinian homes — 35 of which were completely destroyed and the other 40 suffered partial damage — and more than 100 cars, according to the EFE news agency, which quotes the Palestinian press.
This violence occurred in retaliation for the shooting of two Israeli settlers by a Palestinian hours earlier.
The dead settlers were identified as Hillel and Yagel Yaniv, two brothers, ages 22 and 20, who lived in the Jewish settlement of Har Bracha, a few kilometers from Huwara, in the Nablus region.
Palestinian Samed Hamdala, 37, died Sunday night after being shot by an Israeli settler in the village of Zatara, the Palestinian Health Ministry confirmed today.
For its part, the Red Crescent reported that it had treated more than 100 wounded and that three of its ambulances had been attacked by Israeli settlers while carrying out their work.
Footage posted on social media showed settlers slaughtering an entire herd of sheep and uprooting olive trees and other Palestinian crops.
Israeli President Isaac Herzog has already expressed his “strong condemnation” of the attack by Israeli settlers in the north of the occupied West Bank.
“Taking the law into our own hands provokes riots and violence against innocent people. This is not our way and I strongly condemn”the president said in a statement.
The current spike in violence has resulted in the start of the region’s most violent year since 2000.
In less than two months, 62 Palestinians have died in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, largely as a result of almost daily Israeli arrest operations in Palestinian cities, which have been going on for nearly a year and often culminate in armed confrontations.
In turn, if we count the Israelis killed in this afternoon’s attack, the number of casualties on the Israeli side has risen to 13 this year, following several deadly attacks by Palestinians in occupied East Jerusalem over the past few weeks.
