The movie “Everything and Everywhere at the Same Time” and the series “The White Lotus” were the big winners of the Actors Guild Awards (SAG Awards, in the original in English), attributed to this Los Angeles dawn.
The statuettes collected tonight for “Everything, Everywhere at the Same Time” kept the unstoppable road of victory for Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert’s film on its way to the Oscars, which will arrive with 11 nominations.
“We really appreciate your support of this wonderful moment and this film,” said actress Jamie Lee Curtis in her acceptance speech for the night’s most coveted award, Outstanding Ensemble in a Motion Picture.
The story of “Everything and Everywhere at Once” oscillates between the absurd and the fantastic, centering on a middle-aged Chinese immigrant (“Evelyn Wang”) who throws herself into an adventure across multiple universes and timelines. .
“I don’t know what they were thinking when they wrote this screenplay,” jokes veteran James Hong, who plays Gong Gong, with the entire cast in apotheosis on stage at Fairmont Century Plaza in Los Angeles.
The latter award crowned a golden evening for the film’s cast, which took home three of the top acting awards: Best Leading Actress for Michelle Yeoh (as Evelyn Wang), Best Supporting Actress for Jamie Lee Curtis ( who played Deirdre Beaubeirdra) and Best Supporting Actor for Ke Huy Quan (“Waymond Wang”).

“I think if I speak, my heart will burst,” said Michelle Yeoh as she received the Best Lead Actress statuette, beating heavyweights like Cate Blanchett and Viola Davis.
“We’re here because we love what we do and we’ll never stop doing it,” she promised, after spouting some bad words and calling the other nominees “titans.” “Thanks for giving me a seat at the table. Tonight you showed me it’s possible.’
Jamie Lee Curtis had already taken the stage to accept the Best Supporting Actress award, ecstatic with the win at age 64 and the recognition of her peers. “I love actors, I love acting, I love what we do. It’s such a beautiful profession.”

It was also with emotion that Ke Huy Quan became the first Asian to receive the Best Supporting Actor award, making history in this edition of the SAG Awards.
“I realized that this moment is no longer just mine, but everyone’s who asked for change,” he said. Quan recalled not acting for decades because there were so few opportunities for Asian actors.
“The scenario is very different now”, he thought, encouraging anyone trying to be seen to keep going, “because one day the spotlight will find you”.
Still in the cinema, Brendan Fraser climbed to the top with the statuette for Best Actor for his role in “The Whale”, beating nominees such as Austin Butler (“Elvis”) or Paul Dano (“The Fabelmans”).
On the side of the slain, Steven Spielberg’s ‘The Fabelmans’ and ‘The Spirits of Inisherin’ came out empty-handed. The latter had arrived at the ceremony with the same number of nominations as “Everything in Every Side at the Same Time”, but failed to win in any category.
In television, “The White Lotus” (created by Mike White for HBO) has won some of the top awards. He was awarded Best Ensemble in a Drama Series and gave Jennifer Coolidge the title of Best Actress in a Drama Series, maintaining the season’s winning tune.
“I’m so grateful,” said the actress. “You can give money to your friends and people love money, but the best gift you can give someone is to change their perspective for the better,” he continued. “That’s what Mike White did for me.”
“Abbot Elementary” (ABC) received the award for Outstanding Ensemble in a Comedy Series, which creator Quinta Brunson said was “an honor” because it was awarded by peers.
Jeremy Allen White was Best Actor in a Comedy Series for “The Bear” (FX) and Jean Smart, who did not attend the ceremony, stood out as Best Actress in a Comedy Series for “Hacks” (HBO) .
In the television movie or miniseries category, Jessica Chastain won for her role in “George & Tammy” (Showtime) and Sam Elliott won for his performance in “1883” (Paramount+).
The SAG Awards are considered strong predictors of Oscar winners in the acting categories, with the final vote by Academy members starting Thursday, March 2.
The 29th Actors Guild Awards ceremony was held in Los Angeles the day after the 34th Producers Association ceremony, which also recognized “Everything, Everywhere, At The Same Time”.
