A 6-year-old boy was shot and wounded by another 4-year-old boy in an indigenous community in Canada’s central Manitoba province, federal police said Thursday.
The two boys were at a residence on the Peguis First Nation, about 185km north of Winnipeg, on Monday night when they “had access to a firearm,” the Royal Canadian Mounted Police statement said.
Uncompromised vital prognosis
“The 4-year-old boy fired the firearm, and a 6-year-old boy was injured,” he adds, adding that the vital prognosis of the victim, who was taken to the hospital, was not compromised.
A man has been arrested and is facing a charge for illegal possession of firearms.
Five firearms, a crossbow and ammunition were seized by the police at the scene of the tragedy.
