Reserve Lieutenant Colonel Pedro Marquês de Sousa admits that the Ukrainian resistance has surprised him.
“Ukraine really has an amazing military capability that has to do, above all, with the support that the US provided before the invasion, in terms of technologies, what we call electronic warfare. That makes all the difference. People with something Sensitivity to this matter realized that something was going to go out of the ordinary because Russia, which had superiority in air and artillery, could not carry out this offensive,” he explained to TSF Pedro Marques de Sousa.
The expert believes that one of the big differences on the battlefield is Ukraine’s electronic capability. This, in his opinion, is the real “secret weapon” of the country.
“For me, mastery of the electromagnetic spectrum is the secret weapon of this war and explains Russia’s military incapacity, but it also implies air defense capabilities, surveillance and the possibility of acting with artillery,” the lieutenant colonel believes reservedly.
It is an advanced system provided by the US that has had a great impact on the course of the Russian offensive.
“It is an example of a system that simulates radar positions, a decoy system, that creates false emissions in places to precisely attract Russian artillery fire to places that are not military objectives. They are just to confuse the Russian system, to spend ammunition and reveal their positions because when the artillery fires it is easy to reference and locate, their batteries are located and then shot down,” he added.
