“No. No”: Biden’s Message to Putin About Nuclear Weapons in Ukraine

US President Joe Biden has warned his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin against the use of tactical chemical or nuclear weapons after Moscow’s serious losses in the war in Ukraine.

“No. No. No,” Biden said in an excerpt from an interview with CBS’ “60 Minutes,” which aired Friday night. The US president thus responded when asked whether Putin – whose army is suffering heavy losses in Ukraine’s counteroffensive this month – could resort to chemical or tactical nuclear weapons. “You would change the face of war in a way unlike anything since World War II,” said Joe Biden.

“They will become more outcasts in the world than ever before,” the US president added.

Ukraine has recaptured large swaths of territory in the east of the country in recent weeks, boosted by heavy weapons supplied by Western allies.

And Moscow is facing renewed criticism from the West after the discovery of a mass grave on the outskirts of the formerly Russian-occupied city of Izium, where nearly all the exhumed bodies showed signs of torture, according to Kiev authorities.

Meanwhile, Vladimir Putin continues to claim that the invasion of Ukraine is proceeding as planned.

“The plan is not subject to change,” the Russian president said Friday. “Our offensive operations in Donbass are not ending. They are moving slowly… The Russian army is occupying newer areas.”
