In a last gesture showing the love he felt for his mother, King Charles III placed a handwritten note on the coffin of the deceased sovereign Elizabeth II, visible during the state funeral organized this Monday in London.
“In loving and devoted memory. Charles R.“, we can read in this word deposited at the top of the flower crown, which can be translated in French as: “With all my love and my devotion”.
It is also Carlos III who is at the origin of the composition of the floral crown present in the queen’s coffin. The latter contained rosemary and oak foliage, but also myrtle, from a plant grown from myrtle that was present in Elizabeth II’s wedding bouquet in 1947.
Burial scheduled for tonight
King Charles III also wanted “gold, white and burgundy flowers, with touches of white, from the gardens of the royal residences” to be present in the bouquet, the royal family said.
After the funeral organized at noon this Monday at Westminster Abbey, the queen’s burial should take place at night, during a ceremony reserved for close members of the family organized in the Saint-Georges chapel of Windsor Castle.
