Pope says women are “the first disposable material” in today’s world

Pope Francis this Saturday considered women to be “the first disposable material” in the world today, adding that abuse and violence against women is “a scourge” and must be fought.

“The dignity and fundamental rights of each person must be respected: education, work, freedom of expression, and so on,” said the Supreme Head of the Catholic Church, quoted by the Italian news agency ANSA, noting that this need is particularly valid in the case of women.

“The woman is used to it, they pay less because she is a woman. When she is pregnant, she is out of work. That is a habit in big cities, for example in maternity hospitals. It is a plague,” he complained.

Speaking on the eve of celebrations marking the 10th anniversary of his pontificate on Monday, Pope Francis defended the role of women in society: “Let’s not leave women victims of abuse, exploitation, marginalization and undue pressure without a voice.” , he defended.

He then added: “Let us be the voice of their pain and forcefully denounce the injustices they are subjected to, often in contexts that deprive them of any possibility of defense or redemption”.
