In a post on the Instagram social network, Siri Hustvedt explains that Paul Auster was diagnosed with cancer last December after several months of illness and is currently undergoing chemotherapy and immunotherapy in New York.
“I live in a place that I’ve come to call ‘Cancerland’ [país do cancro, em tradução livre]. Many people have crossed the border, either because they were or are ill, or because they love someone, a family member, a child, partner or friend who has or has had cancer,” the author wrote.
Novelist, essayist, screenwriter Paul Auster is 76 years old and has an extensive literary work published in more than 40 languages.
In January of this year, he published “Bloodbath Nation”, not yet published on the Portuguese market, with photography by Spencer Ostrander, in which he reflects on violence in the United States and North Americans’ relationship with guns.
In Portugal, Paul Auster has published a great deal of his literary work, especially his novels, such as “Mr. Vertigo”, “Palácio da Lua”, “Música do Acaso”, “Leviathan”, “Trilogia de Nova York”, ” Timbuktu”, “The Book of Illusions”, “Brooklyn Folly”, “The Man in the Dark” and “4 3 2 1”, which made him a finalist for the Booker Prize.
He directed a few films, the last of which was “The Inner Life of Martin Frost” (2007), partly shot in Portugal.
Paul Auster has already been widely recognized, namely the Médicis Prize, the International Dublina Literary Award or the Prince of Asturias Prize.
