A precarious boat with 47 migrants on board floats with difficulty a few kilometers from the Libyan coast, the non-governmental organization Alarm Phone warned on Twitter on Sunday.
“More than 24 hours after our initial alert to authorities, the migrants are exhausted and still at sea, battling wind and harsh weather conditions. We ask the authorities to coordinate a rescue as soon as possible and take people to a safe place in Italy,” wrote Alarm Phone, an NGO created by a network of activists to warn about sea rescues.
The ship, they insisted, has been adrift since Saturday, being battered by high waves in the central Mediterranean.
“The so-called Libyan Coast Guard told us that the Italian authorities would coordinate the rescue, but they did not give us any information. People must be rescued and brought safely to Europe,” the NGO added.
