A Russian plane crashed into a US drone over the Black Sea on Tuesday. The information was provided by Agence France-Presse (AFP).
The European command of the Armed Forces of the United States of America confirmed what happened. “Our MQ-9 aircraft was conducting routine operations in international airspace when it was intercepted and struck by a Russian aircraft, resulting in a crash and the total loss of the MQ-9,” said US Air Force Gen. U.S. James Hecker, contingent commander. in Europe and Africa.
The European command of the US Air Force specified that two Russian SU-27 fighters intercepted the unmanned drone over international waters.
“Several times before the collision, the SU-27s dumped fuel and flew in front of the MQ-9 in a reckless, unprofessional and unecological manner,” it said.
The US Military claims that “this unsafe and unprofessional act by the Russians nearly caused both planes to crash.”
The United States has already condemned the “reckless” collision of the Russian plane with the American drone.
Russian interceptions in this area are common, but this one “stands out as unsafe, unprofessional and reckless,” National Security Council spokesman John Kirby said.
The spokesman claims that Joe Biden has already been informed of the accident and that the State Department will express its concern to Moscow.
“We don’t need to do some sort of check with the Russians before we fly into international airspace. You don’t need to do that, nor do we,” he added.
NATO diplomats in Brussels confirmed the incident but said they did not expect an immediate escalation into further confrontation.
The collision took place in international airspace over the Black Sea, in an area of intense NATO military activity and close to the war zone in Ukraine.
