A video showing British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s dog walking without a leash in Hyde Park has prompted police to recall the rules in another embarrassing prank after ‘partygate’ and ‘seatbeltgate’.
The images, widely shared on the social network TikTok, show Nova, the Tory leader’s dog, a Labrador retriever, walking at will through London’s Royal Park, after a close-up of a sign indicating that dogs must wear belt.
Footage then shows the animal being held by the collar by Rishi Sunak, before a woman, who appears to be his wife Akshata Murty, hands him the leash.
Rules Reminder
“We are aware of a video showing a dog being left off leash in Hyde Park,” a London police spokesman said.
“An officer, who was present at the time, spoke to a woman and reminded her of the rules. The dog was put back on a leash,” added the same source.
According to the BBC, the officer in question is one of the people closest to the prime minister’s protection. Rishi Sunak’s spokesman declined to comment.
“Partygate” and “seatbeltgate”
Prime Minister since late October, Rishi Sunak was fined for not wearing a seatbelt while filming a video in the back of a car while traveling in the north of England.
He acknowledged a “mistake” and apologized, Downing Street said.
When he was Boris Johnson’s finance minister, Rishi Sunak was fined in the so-called “Partygate” scandal, for having been present at a rally for the prime minister’s birthday, violating anti-covid rules.
