France on strike in a decisive week for Macron’s executive

France lives this Wednesday, March 15, the eighth day of strike in a decisive week to validate or not the final version of the bill on the disputed reform of the pension system, which plans to raise the retirement age from 62 to 64 years.

This Wednesday, a mixed parliamentary commission will analyze the text. If the mixed commission manages to reach an agreement, the text is voted on Thursday in the Senate and then in the Assembly.

The government is still not sure of getting a majority in the assembly and wants to avoid resorting to article 49-3 at all costs.

In the presidential camp there are two camps: those who try to convince that everything will go well and those who can abstain when voting. The number two of the presidential party, Sylvain Maillard, believes in the majority. “I have always defended that there was a majority to vote on this text, so that majority will exist on Thursday,” he defended.

In the field of allies of the President of the Republic, each story will count. Philippe Vigier represents the Modem party, in the final stretch of these discussions. “When we fight to be a deputy, we seek the votes one by one and we try to convince the people, one by one.

On paper, a majority of forty votes is still missing for the text to be approved. The government’s first target: deputies from the right-wing party, the Republicans. About twenty deputies can choose not to vote in favor of the bill. The presidential party tries to convince members of the independent Liberty and Territory (LIOT) party. Main, as explained by its second leader Bertrand Pancher.

“Of course there are pressures. There are always constant pressures. We are all called to vote and the people who will end up voting against [o projecto lei] they will be few”, believes the deputy.

Seek votes outside the majority field, avoiding internal losses. Several deputies from the Horizons party, close to former Prime Minister Edouard Philippe, confirmed that this party will not vote in favor of the text.
